Butylated Compounds (BHT/BHA)
I love that these are easy to spot on a label with just 3 capital letters…
🚫 BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole)
🚫 BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene)
These two closely related synthetic antioxidants are used as preservatives and they’re easy enough for an alphabet identifying child to find on a label! 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡… 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐦𝐚’𝐬!
This toxic duo is commonly found in a wide array of cosmetics and skincare, but also widely used as food and medication preservatives.
This is where it gets real bad…
When looking at the Material Safety Data Sheet for BHT you’ll find the following…
“Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.”
“Ingestion causes Abdominal pain. Confusion. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting.”
“The substance will have toxic effects on the liver.”
“The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.”

The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies BHA as a probable human carcinogen.
The United States Department of Health and Human Services list BHT and BHA as known carcinogens.
The European Commission on Endocrine Disruption has also listed BHA as a Category 1 priority substance, based on evidence that it interferes with hormone function.
It’s banned in England, Japan, multiple other European countries… as well as in EVERY product recommendation you’ll find here!
You and your families health is too precious to not read your labels.
