I have lost count of how many times I’ve been asked about this lately, so let’s chat for a moment on…

Elderberry syrup with the Coronavirus

You may have noticed that it was NOT on my list of supplements used on my most recent Immune System Support post, and I always want to make sure I provide you all with the most accurate tips for keeping yourself and your families healthy at all times!

First, I’d like to note that I am NOT a medical doctor so nothing I share in this group is ever medical advice. I am simply sharing what I’ve found most effective for my family and what I believe helps us stay well… however you choose to care for your family is completely up to you and up to your discretion!


As you all know, we typically love us some elderberry syrup! It’s a wonderful immune booster, easy to take, and has been found to be incredibly effective at helping to reduce flu symptoms!

 

I have heard from mannnny certified herbalists and been reading some research suggesting that it may be best to avoid taking elderberry or giving while this particular Coronavirus is in our midst…

 

The science behind it is that because elderberry is SO effective, when it is taken alongside a respiratory virus (such as Coronavirus), it can cause what’s called a “cytokine storm” that can actually intensify symptoms of the virus.

 

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11399518 – this talks about the effectiveness of Black elderberry, and also the need for more testing. This is something that people will need to evaluate on an individual basis. Our family is currently NOT taking it, and using lots of other methods to support our bodies right now.

 

If you are a BIG elderberry fan, perhaps you could just lower your consumption as a preventative, and then immediately stop if a person is symptomatic – even mildly. If it’s not something you take on a regular basis, I wouldn’t necessarily start now.

 

As with anything, proceed with caution and do what feels right for your family and for your body.
