Safe Swap: Cookie Dough

I grew up in a very conscious home…

Vegetarian until I was about 12, taught to plug our noses walking by the candle isles, (still) never had a fast food burger, had my first taste of cows milk at 16 years old, and never had an OTC medicine until I had a broken leg and was casted from my hip to my toes.


But sometimes if Mom was having a tough day, she would bake cookies for breakfast and call them “scones”. We love to laugh about it now but honestly… my kids had “scones” for breakfast this morning too. And no, I didn’t bake them from scratch.

Most take and bake cookie dough is loaded with garbage, which is so unfortunate because it doesn’t have to be.
