Safe Swap: Pumpkin Muffins

The boys and I have always loved whipping up muffins

and when fall rolls around (eh hem… or sooner), we love to make our home smell heavenly with some pumpkin muffins!

We typically bake from scratch (I’ll link our fave recipe below) but I looove the ease of a simple box mix sometimes too. When looking at the ingredient line up on the “ditch” options… my heart absolutely sank.

Zero organic ingredients – we choose organic to avoid exposure to pesticides and herbicides that are suspected to cause cancer:

Enriched Bleached Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid) – a big red flag on any label should be “bleached”… but combining inorganic bleached flour with synthetic vitamins that our body cannot properly absorb is less than ideal:

Propylene Glycol Esters Of Fatty Acids – if it is banished from being applied to my skin… I certainly don’t want to ingest it:

Natural And Artificial Flavor – this is a HUGE can of worms to open up as any type of flavor (yes, including “natural”) can hide thousands of additional chemical ingredients that aren’t required to be labeled:

Yellow 5 – banned in many other countries, it’s gonna be a no for me:

BHT – the United States Department of Health and Human Services lists BHT as a known carcinogen:…/

Red 40 – A slew of negative side effects from the artificial dye with the worst reputation:…/445428-is-red-40-food…/

Caramel color – sounds innocent (I love real caramel) but sadly it’s anything but:…/the…/

The REALLY good news is, as always.. I’ve got much cleaner options for you!

They are all free from:
🙌🏼 “Natural” and artificial flavors
🙌🏼 Toxic preservatives
🙌🏼 Ingredients that your body is simply unfamiliar with and cannot properly turn into fuel the way it should.
