Safe Swap: Sprinkles

Baking season is in full force, and this swap is an easy (but often overlooked) way to reduce your exposure to synthetic dye.

Even if you don’t suspect an allergy or sensitivity with your children… this swap eliminates any question marks!

Keep in mind, artificial dyes are banned in many other countries. Why ban something that is completely harmless?

Artificial dyes are most frequently derived from petroleum and appear in thousands of different products. On a label, they look like this…
Red No. 3 (Erythrosine)
Red No. 40 (Allura Red)
Yellow No. 5 (Tartrazine)
Yellow No. 6 (Sunset Yellow)
Blue No. 1 (Brilliant Blue)
Blue No. 2 (Indigo Carmine)

⚠️ There are many studies, and thousands of parent testimonies, that all indicate that the consumption of artificial food coloring (Red 40 being the worst) leads to hyperactivity in children. Even children without existing ADHD diagnosis.
⚠️ Additionally, some specific dyes have been shown to increase in brain tumor growth, onset of thyroid tumors, and have concerns of chemical contamination.

⚠️ I simply believe its not worth the risk when there are LOTS of dye-free options out there!

So for this simple Spinkle swap, all of our favorites were added to the amazon shop here for easy shopping! And if you’re whipping up some holiday cookie frosting, some plant based food dye is in the shop too!

You can also find dye free options at most grocery and health food stores these days!
