Safe Swap: Electrolyte Drinks

The Atlantic reported that 40 years ago scientist were paid by sport drink companies to tell us:

👉🏼 That we would not be able to sufficiently hydrate ourselves with just water…

👉🏼 That our children didn’t drink enough at meals

👉🏼 That we would lose performance during sporting events if we didn’t drink this artificially flavored and colored salt water. (


The result became a very popular chemically treated, refined sugar loaded (as much as a typical soda), artifically colored, artificially sweetened, and artificially flavored beverage that is anything BUT positive for your health. Just looking at the ingredients lists on Gatorade, Powerade, and even PEDIALYTE makes me sooo sad for all of the people tricked into thinking it’s “good” for them (I’ll post their ingredient lists in the comments)

There are MANY God given foods that replenish these minerals, so let’s focus on those and some additional replacements.

🍌 Bananas

🍊 Citrus fruits

🥑 Avocado

🥗 Spinach, beet greens and swiss chard

🐟 Wild Caught Salmon

🌱 Beets, squash

🍇 Raisins

Additional and EASY electrolyte drinks…

🥥 Coconut water

🌵 Cactus water

💦 Trace mineral drops added to water

🏃🏻‍♀️ Nuun electrolyte tablets (on Amazon, Fresh Thyme or any health food store… a much safer alternative to above ditches but not the first choice due to “natural flavors”)


Our favorite homemade recipe:

* 1/2 Cup Fresh Squeezed Organic Orange Juice

* 1/2 Cup Fresh Squeezed Organic Lemon Juice

* Two cups water (or raw coconut/cactus water)

* 2 tbsp raw local honey or pure maple syrup

* 1/8 Tsp pink himalayan salt
